ペルオキシダーゼは過酸化水素を用いて物質の酸化反応を触媒する酵素であり、生体内酸化還元反応の過程で生じる過酸化水素を除去するという生理的役割を担っている。

応用 西洋ワサビペルオキシダーゼは、組織学における染色(酵素抗体法)や、ELISAなどの分析化学実験において、標識物質として用いられている。

グルタチオンペルオキシダーゼ どこ?

さらに、哺乳(ほにゅう)動物の肝臓、心臓や赤血球にはグルタチオンペルオキシダーゼが存在する。 この酵素は分子量約2.3万のモノマーの四量体で、セレンを含有するセレノシステインを活性中心にもつ。 過酸化水素や過酸化脂質の分解により、膜脂質やヘモグロビンを酸化から保護する抗酸化酵素として重要である。

グルタチオンの種類は?

グルタチオンには還元型 (GSH) と酸化型 (glutathione disulfide, GSSG)(右図)があり、酸化型は、2分子の還元型グルタチオンがジスルフィド結合によってつながった分子である。 細胞内のグルタチオンは、通常、ほとんど(98%以上)が還元型として存在する。
